Position Summary:

Reporting jointly to the Managing Director of the Office of Business Engagement (OBE) and Founding/Managing Director of School of Computing, Data, and Information Sciences (CDIS), the primary expectation of this role is to build new and improve/expand existing relationships between UW-Madison and private-sector companies. These comprehensive relationships will include, but are not limited to student recruitment, research partnerships, philanthropy, sponsorship opportunities, executive education and technology transfer. This person will play a key role in managing OBE's new accountabilities regarding corporate philanthropy.

This role will be measured by driving additional revenue annually into the college of L&S, CDIS as well as cross-campus. In addition, this role will support key strategic initiative successful completion: APLU IEP process and designation, industry partner or related programs and the various capital and building projects sponsored through the college of L&S, with a focus on CDIS departments, Computer Sciences, Statistics and i-School.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required.

Prefer educational and applied background in information technology, engineering, computer sciences, and/or statistics. Prefer business development and complex solution selling background. Higher education experience a plus, but not required. An understanding of differences between higher education and private sector/industry processes, governance and decision making is beneficial.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least 7 years of experience and a proven track record in business development and complex, multi-stakeholder problem solving. Experience in leading through influence. Experience in relationship management and development. Understanding of UW-Madison or research and academic institutions is beneficial. Experience with university practices regarding student/talent recruitment, sponsorship, collaborative research and/or tech transfer desired. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Additional Information:

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable speaking in small groups or large forums. Must be comfortable and interested in working with and influencing faculty, department chairs and Deans, C- and VP-level executives and administrators. Excellent planning and follow through skills are also essential.
