Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Performs installation, maintenance and repair of primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, electrical equipment, building lighting, electrical fixtures, outside lighting and power and performs temporary installation of electrical power for public and university functions throughout campus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification

  • Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

  • Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • A minimum of five years of field experience in the electrical trade
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to plan work operations, follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with department heads and other trade and contract workers as required
  • Ability to use computers, IPads, IPhone, for timekeeping, communication, data entry and work order management
  • Employee must possess strong electrical trade knowledge and skills.
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and NC State Building Code
  • Must be able to use multimeters, ammeters, meggars, locating devices and other trade test equipment
  • Must be able to perform wiring, conduit installation, electrical troubleshooting, and electrical/lighting fixture repair/replacement.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and perform corrective repairs on primary/secondary distribution wiring, transformers, switchgear, main and sub service panels, and complete building electrical distribution wiring, conduits, fixtures and lighting
  • Employee will occasionally be required to monitor, evaluate and inspect electrical work performed by outside contractors
