The University of Florida, College of the Arts invites applicants and nominations for the position of Assistant or Associate Dean of Research and Strategic Initiatives. The position will report to the Dean and be a part of the College’s Executive Committee. The administrative duties of the position are to lead, expand and coordinate the college’s body of research and grant funding by managing current research, supporting new research/grant opportunities at the school level and leading grant writing at the college level; manage workflow for college level projects; assist with strategic planning, accreditation and program reviews; oversee all faculty support programs/awards; supervise the College’s communications team; oversee college strategic planning and implementation, including facilities and capital planning; manage and oversee assessment at the College level; represent the College internally and externally on committees, in national dialogues, and at meetings and events.

Approximately 1,700 students are pursuing majors in degrees offered by the College of the Arts under the direction of 130 faculty members in its three accredited schools— the School of Art + Art History, the School of Music and the School of Theatre + Dance, and in the Center for Arts in Medicine, the Digital Worlds Institute and the Center for Arts, Migration and Entrepreneurship. In addition, the college comprises the University Galleries, and the University level of the New World School of the Arts in Miami.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances access, equity and inclusion

  • Advanced degree

  • Demonstrable experience in grant writing, grants management, and interdisciplinary research coordination

  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree

  • 2 or more years' experience at a Research 1 public university

  • Experience incorporating transdisciplinary collaborations among the Arts, Humanities, Engineering and other fields

  • Experience with socially engaged strategic initiatives

  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor a thriving culture of publication and scholarship

  • Fluency in national issues and trends around the arts and interdisciplinary arenas in which the arts engage

  • Strong record of securing external funding and of driving the advancement of external funding at the institutional level

  • Experience with leadership of academic assessment processes

  • Experience with facilities strategic planning

  • 2 or more years’ experience in administration at a Research 1 public university, arts college, or related institution
