Position:

Northeastern Illinois University’s Department of Literacy, Leadership and Development is seeking a Founding Director of the Ed. D. in Urban Education Program.  The candidate will be responsible for the development of the University’s new doctoral program in Urban Education (working title).    The ideal candidate will share the University’s commitment to educating a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student population. Further, the candidate will be reflective, collaborative, and transformative.

The Department of Literacy, Leadership and Development is a critical learning community that inspires innovation inside and outside the classroom in school leadership PK-21, Literacy and Human Resource Development. Responsibilities:

• Lead a collaborative group tasked with designing and drafting a new doctoral program proposal and accompanying curriculum in Educational Leadership: Urban Education (working title), that is culturally relevant and steering it through the approval process
• Lead, coordinate, teach and advise in the program
• Secure external grant funding for the program, where appropriate
• Contribute to the assessment, evaluation, and accreditation of the program
• Conduct on-going scholarly research in area of expertise and disseminate findings and participate in the scholarly community
• Participate in academic activities at the Department, College, and University levels
• Participate in professional and community activities  Market and recruit new students for the program

Required Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Education or a related field from an accredited institution
• Eligible for the rank of Associate or Full Professor
• Experience teaching and/or directing a doctoral program
• Experience in program development
• Strong scholarship/research productivity in Education or related discipline
• Experience working with racially/ethnically, socio-economically mixed and minority populations
• Experience serving on doctoral-level dissertation and/or thesis committees

• Demonstrated success in securing grants
• Experience teaching on-line
• Demonstrated commitment to service
• Demonstrated knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogy
• Works harmoniously with colleagues, students, and the community
