Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant /Associate Professor - Physical Education Teacher Education
Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)
Summary:
UVU seeks a tenure track, assistant professor to teach undergraduate and graduate physical education teacher education courses. Coordinates the Physical Education K-12 Teacher Education (PETE) program including scheduling, hiring and supervising adjuncts. Engages with local school districts and educators. Enhances the physical education teacher education program. Provides service to the department, university, and community. Supports collegiality, upholds professional and ethical standards. Keeps current in research and innovation in the professional field and engages in scholarly activities.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited institution in Physical Education Teacher Education or a closely related field (or ABD with dissertation defense scheduled - degree must be in hand by position start date)
3 years successful, certified public school teaching in Physical Education (K-12) in the United States or comparable (i.e., DODDS, American Curriculum schools overseas, private schools)
Earned professional teaching license (does not have to be current)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of content and skills required to teach any PETE course
- Knowledge of instructional strategies & techniques for effective student learning
- Knowledge of current trends and innovation in PETE, including effectively working with K-12 personnel and teacher performance assessment
- Knowledge of cultural relevancy and diversity in the PETE
- Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards
- Knowledge of a course management system, Instructure Canvas preferred
- Skills to facilitate student learning
- Skills to manage a productive teaching/learning environment
- Skills in working collaboratively with students, university and K-12 schools as well as the community
- Skills in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing
- Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to provide vision for the PETE program
- Ability to work with adjuncts
- Ability to work with public school personnel
- Evidence of involvement in professional organizations (SHAPE America specifically as well as other appropriate professional organizations)
- Ability to produce scholarly work
- Ability to communicate and relate positively with colleagues, students, and K-12 personnel
- Ability and willingness to serve on school, university, community, and professional committees
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful teaching in a Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) related program in a higher education environment
Coordination of PETE or other education related programs
Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.
Experience with embedded teacher preparation
Experience and commitment to university/public school partnerships
Current SHAPE America membership
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements include frequent standing, sitting, grasping, and fine hand manipulation with continual talking, hearing, and seeing. May be required to lift up to 10 lbs.
