Duties and Responsibilities
Vice President for Student Services and Affairs
Serves as chief enrollment management and student services officer
for the University and reports to the President of Fairmont State
University, providing leadership, vision and administrative
supervision of a full range of student services, including but not
limited to admissions/enrollment, financial aid, residence life and
housing, student employment, counseling services, disability
services, career services, academic advising, tutoring and testing,
veterans' programs, and international programs.
-Provides best practices scenarios for adoption and
implementation
-Participates in the formulation and success of institutional
enrollment goals; leads enrollment, financial aid and other student
services initiatives that engage the University community; supports
enrollment and student service programming at off-campus
locations.
-Develops and implements strong financial aid programs for students
in order for more eligible students to enroll and matriculate, to
include strong and effective communications and outreach plans to
students and their parents/families in regard to financial aid
availability and applying for aid. Collaborates with student
employment coordinator to establish central repository job bank for
student employment and to communicate student employment
opportunities to students and their families.
-Provides vision, inspiration and strong leadership through
sophisticated strategies with innovative ideas. Working appropriate
University and community constituents, effectively shapes the
development and maintenance of a comprehensive enrollment
management plan that stretches from recruitment to graduation and
advancing the institution's vision for a student-centered learning
environment.
-Maintains continuous evaluation of student services programs to
insure effectiveness of programs. Participates in/supervises the
preparation and recommendation of detailed budgets, with cost
estimates, for all functions supervised. Establishes and maintains
budgetary control of functions supervised.
-Oversees the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to
ensure students with disabilities have equal access to services.
Ensures that Student Services activities and programs are in
compliance with Title IX legal provisions as well as best
practices.
-Recommends, develops and implements student services policies,
procedures and practices which foster and promote student learning
and which support the educational programs of the institution;
recommends organizational structures, personnel and resources to
ensure a student-centered/learner- centered environment at all
levels.
-Represents the institution to various external entities and with
outside agencies in matters relating to the institution's student
services.
-Supports University activities and special events through
attendance and/or participation. Communicates an effective image of
the University to the public. Is a positive and active
representative of the University and is available to address
emergency situations during non-traditional work hours.
-Ensures the effective ongoing training and development of SS
staff, especially in customer service and job knowledge, and serves
as a strong role model for effective customer service, work
initiative and proactivity. Recognizes and promotes initiative and
excellence among the Student Services staff. Ensures that employees
follow all workplace safety rules and accident/injury reporting
guidelines.
-Maintains confidentiality of information under Student Services'
purview regarding students, supervisors or other employees and
ensures compliance with all privacy and confidentiality laws,
policies and guidelines.

Minimum of 8-10 years of increasingly responsible experience in
enrollment and/or student services in a higher education setting or
any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient
to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities required include:
- Knowledge of student services programs and operations
-Proven effective supervisory experience and the ability to
effectively supervise and evaluate employees
-Excellent communication skills (oral, written and verbal)
-Proven skill and facility in the use of a personal computer and
commonly used business software programs
-Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and
balance multiple tasks
-Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
-Ability to work both independently and as an effective team
member
-Ability to perform basic data analysis and identify statistical
trends
-Budget preparation experience
-Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of data-driven decision
making
-Proven ability to develop strategic plans and strategic teams that
partner enrollment services, student services, student development,
academic affairs, and institutional research to support student
success, retention, and graduation
-Sophisticated knowledge of assessment and evaluation tools to
implement continuous quality improvement practices in student
access and success services
-Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective student
financial aid programs and services
-Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of integrated marketing
principles
Proven commitment and demonstrated ability to develop automated
recruitment and admissions processes and other related
technologies, preferably Banner.
