Description: At this profound moment of societal change, the need for Anti-Racist Leadership is critical to our understandings about equity and opportunity in K-12 and higher education. Given the need for Anti-Racist policies and practices, the Doctorate in Educational Leadership seeks a new faculty colleague at the Assistant or Associate level (in the tenure stream). We seek applicants who conduct policy-relevant research that addresses questions related to racial justice in education. We welcome applicants who draw on various methodological approaches and theoretical perspectives to engage in research that: (1) explores the transformational capacities of education for the least-advantaged populations; (2) investigates the ways in which educational policies, programs, or power structures may disrupt, reify, or exacerbate inequities for learners across the life cycle; and/or (3) evaluates the efficacy, feasibility, and resource uses and allocations associated with policy solutions that influence educational quality and disrupt persistent inequalities in educational opportunities, experiences, and outcomes. We invite scholars who investigate the intersections between policy and systemic power relationships drawing on knowledge traditions such as, but not limited to, critical race theory, critical policy studies, decoloniality/Indigenous studies, restorative justice, economic injustice, political science, abolition, and ethnic studies. We seek a colleague committed to community-engaged scholarship in their teaching and advising practices and who centers educational praxis in their service at the university, community, and national levels.

Context: The candidate would join Sacramento State University at a time of great excitement and action, particularly related to our campus-wide commitments to equity and justice. The hire will have an academic home in the Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) program. The Ed.D. path is an innovative joint program between the College of Education and the Department of Public Policy and Administration in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. The Ed.D. program’s mission is to develop equity leaders who transform educational systems. Our curriculum and instruction purposely join together knowledge, skills, theory, and practice. Four key curricular themes provide the focus for all coursework: (1) Transformational Leadership, (2) Critical Policy Analysis and Action, (3) Qualitative and Quantitative Methodologies, and (4) Educational Equity and Informed Decision-Making. This innovative weekend and evening program allow doctoral students to complete their degree in nine semesters over three years. See more program details at http://www.csus.edu/edd.
