Assistant Director of Bands

The Assistant Director of Bands will assist the Director of Bands in a team environment with the administration, recruitment, and continued development of a comprehensive university band program. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to enhance the school’s commitment to diversity and inclusion reflecting departmental and institutional values.

Specified duties include: providing outstanding organizational and musical direction of the 250-member Colorado State University Marching Band (with oversight by the Director of Bands); logistical planning including managing staff assigned to work with the university athletic bands and oversight of an administrative assistant; organizational and musical direction of the men’s and women’s basketball band; coordinating the Presidential Pep Band; maintaining budgetary discipline (with oversight by the Director of Bands); communication in a timely manner with university offices and the alumni association (in coordination with the Director of Bands); engaging in scholarly and/or creative research activities appropriate to the discipline; participating in faculty service activities and committee work; teaching additional classes as determined by qualifications and institutional needs.

Examples of additional classes may include Symphonic Band (the second auditioned concert band) or Concert Band (the third concert band), marching band techniques, undergraduate conducting, etc.
