The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Systems Engineering. Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and the potential to develop an externally funded research program. Candidates from disciplines related to Systems Engineering, such as Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, with research relevant to areas of robotics and autonomous systems, mechatronics, and quantum engineering systems will be considered.

Created in the Fall of 2011, the Department of Systems Engineering is a key component of UT Dallas’ growth strategy. We are seeking candidates whose research interests span one or more of the fundamental areas of systems engineering, including but not limited to: systems architecture, modeling, simulation and systems integration, optimization, systems management, risk management, and system design. Of particular interest are candidates in both theory and application of robotics and autonomous systems, mechatronics, and quantum engineering systems.

The UT Dallas Department of Systems Engineering currently offers the M.S. degree in Systems Engineering and Management, a joint degree with the highly rated UT Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management. Through jointly offered courses and collaborative research projects, faculty in the Systems Engineering Department supervise students in the Ph.D. programs of the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Bioengineering, and participate in those doctoral programs through membership on doctoral committees. The close proximity to a large number of high tech companies in the Dallas area offers outstanding opportunities for collaboration in research and graduate education.

In addition to Systems Engineering, the Erik Johnson School is home to the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering and Materials Science & Engineering with interdisciplinary programs in Computer, Telecommunications and Software Engineering.

The University of Texas at Dallas is situated in Richardson, one of the most attractive suburbs of the Dallas metropolitan area with several hundred high-tech companies within a few miles of the campus, including Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Lennox, Rockwell-Collins, Nortel Networks, Alcatel, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Fujitsu, Cisco Systems, EDS, Zyvex Labs, and Intervoice. Opportunities for joint university-industry research projects are excellent. The Erik Jonsson School has experienced rapid growth for the last ten years. As a result of increased funding and continued growth of the university, the school is expanding its existing programs, establishing new programs, and recruiting outstanding faculty. In addition to people and programs, a 110 million dollar state-of-the art building for education and research in engineering was inaugurated in 2019.

Applicants should submit a completed application, current curriculum vitae that includes a complete publication list, research statement, teaching statement, teaching evaluations (if available), writing sample and the full contact information for at least four professional references via the online application at http://jobs.utdallas.edu/postings/15184.

Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until January 31, 2021. All recommendation letters are due by February 15, 2021. For more information consult the department website https://www.utdallas.edu/syse/ or contact Ms. Kathryn Owens, Kathryn.Owens1@utdallas.edu (+1 (972) 883-4479).
