The United States Military Academy (West Point) seeks applicants for a tenured or tenure track Regular Faculty position in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Credentials and desired applicant qualities:

Applicants must be US citizens holding a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Regular Faculty members are expected to contribute across the five faculty domains: Teaching, Scholarship, Service, Cadet Development, and Faculty Development. Faculty teach introductory through senior level courses in either Computer Science, Cyber Science, or Electrical Engineering with a hiring emphasis on operating systems, distributed systems, and/or communications systems expertise. Regular Faculty engage in research that typically involves cadets, encourages faculty collaboration, and contributes to scholarship. Faculty are expected to engage with cadets outside of the classroom via cadet clubs, character/ethics education, sports teams, and/or other developing and mentoring opportunities.

For hiring at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level, this is a tenure-track hire with an initial term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. For hiring at the Associate Professor or Professor level, this is a tenured position with an initial 2 year trial period. Faculty that attain, or are hired at, the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor may have the opportunity to non-competitively receive a permanent appointment.

About West Point:

West Point, the oldest engineering school in the United States, is a four-year baccalaureate college situated just fifty miles north of New York City in the scenic Hudson River valley. Each student (cadet) passes through an intense nomination and appointment process to gain admission. Ouracceptance rate is 10%, with the student body consisting of approximately 4,500 cadets. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) offers ABET accredited majors in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Electrical Engineering. The Department is in the process of standing up a newly approved Cyber Science Major. In 2020, the department graduated 84 majors, including 7 cadets who earned national scholarships. EECS has state-of- the-art laboratory facilities and also hosts three centers of excellence: (1) the Cyber Research Center; (2) the Robotics Research Center; and (3) the Photonics Research Center. The department’s ties to Army Research Agencies and the NSA make it an ideal and unique place to conduct applied research.
