Search for Collegiate Faculty Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Faculty position. This will be non-tenure track contract position at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (http://www.me.vt.edu/), which includes a Nuclear Engineering Program, has 67 faculty, 30 affiliate faculty, annual research expenditures of over $18M, and a current enrollment of 300 graduate students with 180 students at doctoral level, and over 1100 undergraduate students. The Department is ranked 15th (8th in public schools) and 23rd (12th in public schools) out of all mechanical engineering departments in the nation in undergraduate and graduate education, respectively, by the 2019 U.S. News and World Report.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in engineering or a closely related discipline by the start time of their appointment. We are seeking candidates committed to a career in teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for primarily teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in both regular classrooms and distance-learning settings, and for mentoring and advising students. It is expected that the candidate will research and implement pedagogical methods to improve education outcomes. Though not required, the candidate is also encouraged to be involved in research in particular if it supports the teaching mission. We are seeking candidates who have a broad teaching interest in all mechanical engineering subareas, including all traditional areas of solid and fluid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, vibrations, controls, design, technical electives, capstone senior design, and experimentation courses. Preference will be given to candidates based on credentials and not based on the subarea.
