Library Web Content Specialist

Libraries Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for daily management of the libraries’ website. Develop website content and information architecture and apply a user-oriented perspective to the process. Create new pages, new content, and new navigation as needed. Help develop or source content including text, still images (illustrations, photographs, graphics), audio, video, online forms, etc. Assist with additional communications work, including writing news articles and social media.

Website Content Management (80%)

● Create, edit and publish web content including text, image, and media using content management applications; administer changes to website content, structure, and navigation
● Regularly evaluate the website for areas of improvement, with the goals of having the website be as user-friendly, useful, and accessible as possible for our users
● Chair the Website Content Team
● Coordinate periodic review of the library website to ensure website content is accurate and up to date; lead an annual content and FAQ review with the Website Content Team
● Regularly gather, review, and report analytics of website usage
● Coordinate yearly website usability testing to ensure that it meets user needs and to identify any issues
● Regularly review website for compliance with the Smith Libraries website style guide and the Smith College style guide
● Provide project management for website-related projects including moves to next Drupal versions and subsequent website rebuilds
● Work with external consultants and vendors on website projects
● Ensure that website compliance with global accessibility standards
● Coordinate with Information Technology Services and College Relations staff on web platform updates and maintenance, including direct resolution of problems and updates related to branding
● Update web content on Springshare pages (LibAnswers, LibCal, etc), as well as legacy HTML pages
● Provide timely website updates in urgent and emergency situations
● Train other staff members as backup website editors
● Keep current with best practices for website development and management

Digital Communications (20%)

● Compose, edit and publish online news and events content
● Assist with creating, managing, and posting social media content
● As a member of the Libraries’ Marketing Team, work on public relations, marketing and social media campaigns
● Manage the Libraries’ public relations photography in the Zenfolio digital asset management system

Minimum Qualifications

● 2-4 years of higher education plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

● Experience working with diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with web content management and general project management is strongly preferred
● Experience working with library websites is preferred

Skills

● Excellent written and oral communication
● Knowledge of Drupal 7 and higher strongly preferred
● Interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
● Accuracy and attention to detail
● Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and to take appropriate initiative
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Proficiency with project management and productivity tools
● Web content management, digital image editing, and general office work software
● Ability to learn new systems related to website development and management
● Familiarity with Google Suite preferred
