Job Summary

Columbus State University invites outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Visiting Assistant / Associate Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Education and Health Professions. This position is a non-tenure-track faculty position with a start date of August 2021 and a tentative end date of May 2022.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science / Kinesiology courses; developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda; and performing service at all levels to support and advance the missions of the department, college, and university; and performing related tasks necessary to ensure excellence in Exercise Science at Columbus State University. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, demonstrate
exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice, and engage in practices that support the University’s focus on student engagement and active learning.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences offers the B.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science and M.S in Exercise Science. The program houses a human performance laboratory that is more than 1,400 square feet and includes a Parvomedics Metabolic Cart, GE Lunar DXA, Bod Pod, multiple BIA devices, Accupower force plate, Lode Excalibur Cycle Ergometer, Brower Timing System, Lactate Scout, Monark Cycle Ergometers, Cholestech LDX, Zephyr BioHarness, LOGIQ e ultrasound, accelerometers/pedometers, and other equipment related to lab experiences (e.g., blood pressure monitors, skinfold calipers, and heart rate monitors).

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field, from a regionally accredited institution (ABD candidates considered); excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work effectively as a team member; ability to teach a variety of courses in the B.S. Kinesiology and/or M.S. Exercise Science programs; a record of successful research and publication or strong evidence of potential; a record of service and involvement in the profession; and the ability to use technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses such as Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Psychology, Advanced Exercise Testing & Prescription, Measurement and Evaluation in Kinesiology; have active participation and certification from the ACSM or NSCA; and have successful experience teaching at the college level.
