Description of the Department or Unit

STBE houses three academic programs: the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sustainable Technology; the BS in Building Sciences, with three concentrations; and the Master of Science in Technology, with three concentrations. STBE includes 23 full-time faculty serving approximately 750 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. STBE has played an integral role in building the University’s sustainability agenda, which features prominently in the University’s Strategic Plan. Faculty from these three programs have brought in over $8 million in external funding since 2007. Their work exemplifies a commitment to applied research and interdisciplinary, experiential learning, with specific emphases on renewable energy and on sustainable design and construction of healthy, high-performance buildings. Students in these programs have achieved notable successes in national and international collaborative competitions such as the Formula Sun Grand Prix and American Solar Challenge, the USDOE Race to Zero and Solar Decathlon, Solar Decathlon Europe, and the USEPA P3 program, among others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses related to sustainability and renewable energy technology in the Sustainable Technology program and expand the professional contacts of the program in the renewable energy industry. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, participating in program and departmental service work, advising students, and maintaining and enhancing student/research labs.
