Muellerleile Endowed ChairinEnglish. This is a 10-month
tenure track contract and will include teaching responsibilities.
This position is scheduled to begin in August 2021 and is
full-time.
TheMuellerleile Endowed Chair in Englishserves as a
transformational leader and mentor to faculty colleagues and
students, as a collaborator with other university departments and
leaders, and as an advocate for the English Major. The Muellerleile
Chair will provide leadership and partnership around curriculum
development and career readiness with vision, direction, and
inspiration in order that the highest level in teaching, research
and service activities in the department are realized. The
Muellerleile Chair is ultimately responsible for helping to support
the department’s programs, enrollment, and curricular
quality.
Responsibilities:
- Establish an agenda which has innovation and growth at its
center with a vision for helping to shape the English major in ways
that support equity and access.
- Design, teach, evaluate and revise course content to reflect
most current knowledge in the field, particularly with regard to
career readiness.
- Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as
appropriate to maintain relevance.
Teach effectively in the face-to-face, hybrid or fully online format, achieving student learning objectives. - As an educator, advisor, and a mentor, foster a culture of
inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students
of all cultures and abilities, effectively supporting students who
are majoring in English or considering the major.
- Develop and pursue an innovative and respected program of
research to advance the discipline and inform classroom teaching.
Through this, collaborate with undergraduate students in
research.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with operational
units to support recruitment, retention and career readiness of
students and to pursue support from donor gifts and
grants.
- Create and foster relationships with secondary schools and
community colleges to build an effective pipeline of
students.
- Develop relationships in the business community to facilitate
experiential learning for English majors, resulting in internships
that allow students to practice their skills.
- Participate in shared governance of the university through
service on committees.
- Support faculty in creating career opportunities for
students.
- Support the charge to embed career preparation within course content and assess progress through student learning outcomes

Minimum Qualifications
- Terminal degree (PhD orMFA) in
English, comparative literature, rhetoric / composition, writing,
or other relevant field
- Applicants must have a strong record of research
accomplishments, as documented by publications in leading
peer-reviewed journals
- Academic accomplishments suitable for the rank of associate
professor or professor.
- Current, robust research agenda including relevant publications
in innovative Humanities curriculum design, pedagogy, career
preparation, or similar.
- Experience teaching in online, hybrid and in-person
formats.
- Experience teaching, advising and mentoring students
- Experience involving students in relevant research
projects.
- Record of excellence in teaching.
- Public-oriented or project-oriented scholarship/service and/or
collaborative work
- Digital Humanities projects that advance the study of
literature or writing
- Grant writing experience
- Experience building partnerships between higher education and
community colleges and other secondary institutions
- Experience building partnerships with employers
