position.
Our Business Office is an agile and diverse environment and
provides essential administrative support for financial matters for
the university, including budgeting, financial analysis, financial
reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
TheControllerprovides hands-on leadership for financial and
business affairs including overall administration of the budget
process in conformity with the University’s strategic plan;
maintenance of internal accounting controls; financial reporting
and external audit coordination; development of financial policies
and procedures; investment management; insurance administration,
management and administration of long-term debt including bonds;
and restructuring the institutions financial and accounting
systems.
Responsibilities:
- The Controller will interface and present regularly to the
University’s leadership and will prepare information and materials
for the Board of Trustees. As they key financial leader advising
theSVPandCFO,
the Controller will provide critical insight and analyses to
support strategic planning, goal setting, and key policy and
decision making.
- Plan, prepare and implement insurance strategy and renewal
processes.
- Develop and maintain and oversee risk management policies,
procedures and activities.
- Engage with the investment advisor on the analysis,
recommendations, results and reporting for the endowment &
other investments.
- Engage and partner with third parties for debt structure and
on-going rating status.
- Serve as financial advisor and engage in strategic planning,
President’s Cabinet and University collaboration
- Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with
people of all cultures and abilities, supporting university
initiatives toward inclusive excellence.
- Work in a team environment, focused on continuous improvement,
managing all financial functions.
- Direct all aspects of accounting operations including policies,
procedures and reconciliations as they relate to general ledger
accounting, cash and investment management controls and functions,
invoicing and accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets,
inventory, payroll and card processing.
- Oversee and evaluate tuition and collection procedures to
minimize potential bad debt.
- Maintain compliant and timely debt requirements, prepare
recommendations and take action related to debt
portfolio.
- Act as the subject matter expert for financial information
systems relative to leveraging system capabilities
- Lead pre- and post- audit efforts coordinating resources needed
across various impacted departments
- Determine departmental goals and objectives, assign work and
monitor completion of work.
- Supervise the business and student accounts offices so that an
efficient and orderly operation will be fostered and
maintained.
- Hire, train, coach and mentor direct reports, guiding them in
developing position descriptions and performance indicators;
reviewing and revising staff position descriptions, and supporting
training initiatives.
- Manage grant & gift reporting, records, requests for payments and cash flow assistance requests

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- Five years of increasingly responsible senior management
experience
- Fifteen years of finance and accounting experience
- Knowledge of fund accounting and higher education
administrative support programs
- Experience performing financial analyses and managing
investment activities, and computer literacy for financial analysis
and reporting
- Expertise in positive, team-based management
- Experience building strong, effective and respectful relationships
- Advanced degree orCPA
- Experience in private, higher education, higher education, or in a nonprofit business.
