The History Department at Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the history of Latin America, beginning July 1, 2021. Area and time-period of specialization within Latin American History are open, but candidates who conceptualize their teaching across Central and South America and the Spanish Caribbean are especially welcome. Candidates should be prepared to teach survey courses on early and modern Latin America and upper-level seminars in their area of interest. The History Department also maintains a robust honors program, which has included students writing theses on Latin American topics. Kenyon's commitment to the interdisciplinary study of Latin America is expressed in both the International Studies Major and Latino/a Studies concentration.

The History Department seeks a creative colleague who can build on our current global curriculum. The department is comprised of a dozen historians with diverse thematic and geographic specializations, and it values both commitment to undergraduate education and high quality research. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and a Ph.D. in hand or be near completion of their dissertations by the beginning of the appointment in July 2021.

Applications should include (1) a letter of application and (2) a curriculum vitae. Cover letter should discuss teaching experience, with specific examples of innovative assignments and approaches; information on ways that issues and practices related to diversity, inclusion, and equity have been or will be included in teaching and advising; and the candidate’s research agenda, including current and future projects. More materials - letters of recommendation, writing sample, unofficial transcript, and teaching philosophy - will be requested of candidates who advance to the interview stage. To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu.  Review of applications will begin on January 20, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. If you have any questions, please email Patrick Bottiger, Chair of the Search Committee, at bottigerp@kenyon.edu
