Position Summary:
Anne Arundel Community College believes that faculty are the heart of the institution. We are searching for a faculty member who is energized by the community college pathways and inclusivity/equity initiatives, and views it as his/her job to support a diverse set of learners inside and outside the classroom. The Visual Arts and Transfer Studies Departments are jointly seeking an exceptional faculty member who embraces the notion of assisting students achieve their goals, and approach academic excellence as evidenced in equity as a moral imperative 

Specifically, AACC seeks an interdisciplinary faculty member who will advance its values and strategic plan in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion specifically as they relate to interdisciplinary curricular innovation, learning outcomes assessment, antiracist pedagogy, and student support and completion within the primary academic discipline and in the Transfer Studies A.A. degree program. This novel joint faculty position will report to both the Assistant Dean of Transfer Studies (who will oversee the development of new curriculum in Transfer Studies with a goal of maintaining the flexibility of the program while improving opportunities for student engagement, pathways, and assessment) and the Assistant Dean of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and World Languages. In the long term, this faculty member will teach approximately half of their required course load in Transfer Studies courses (to be developed) and approximately half in their primary academic discipline. In the short term, this faculty member can expect to teach most of their required 30 credit course load in the primary academic discipline or in student success courses while developing new interdisciplinary Transfer Studies courses.  

A strong applicant for this joint faculty position will demonstrate a proven ability to teach courses in more than one of the priority disciplines, both face-to-face and online, have demonstrated experience with curricular innovation and/or interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum, have demonstrated experience with an antiracist pedagogical and research agenda, and be able to develop curriculum that is explicitly aimed at retaining African American males and Latinx students. As part of department, school, division, and college service, the successful applicant will, in addition to playing an integral role in the collaborative development of interdisciplinary courses and planned assessments in the Transfer Studies A. A. degree program, mentor students enrolled in the Transfer Studies A. A. degree program, and collaborate internally and externally with faculty and staff to develop and strengthen pathways and/or articulations to four-year institutions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date

  • Primary responsibilities: 
  • 30 faculty load hours each academic year 
  • 6 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters 
  • Teaching and assessing student learning 
  • Student advising 
  • Attain and maintain program accreditation 
  • Recruiting and managing clinical/practicum affiliations 
  • Professional Development 

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time faculty; part-time faculty 
  2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities 
  3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.) 
  4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs 
  5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community 
  6. Recruiting and marketing 
  7. Advising with expanded responsibilities 
  8. Devising retention strategies and activities 
  9. strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Art History 
  • 2 equivalent years (i.e. 60 credits) of teaching in a higher education institution 
  • Experience developing courses or curriculum 
  • Strong commitment to inclusive curriculum and antiracist pedagogy 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Community college teaching experience 
  • Online teaching experience using learning management systems and videoconferencing 
  • Scholarship in antiracism, equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and departments 
  • Student advising, mentoring, or engagement experience.
