The Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for an Associate Professor of Practice with primary teaching responsibilities in our DSW program. We seek candidates with extensive practice experience, with particular expertise in the areas of social work leadership and ethics. This position will start on or before May 1, 2021, subject to the selected candidate's availability. The position can be remote with expectations of availability for campus-based activities as needed. The position is a full-time twelve-month practice faculty (non-tenure track) appointment.

Simmons University is a small, highly collegial and dynamic university located in the heart of Boston's world-renowned Longwood Medical Area. Simmons is comprised of an undergraduate liberal arts education program for women and those who identify as women plus professional graduate schools with masters and doctoral programs for all genders, presenting unique and rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The SSW is part of the College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice and offers degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, DSW, PhD).

The DSW degree program will launch in January of 2021 and is offered via our innovative online platform, SocialWork@Simmons. Our DSW program is underpinned with a DEIPAR (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Intersectionality, Power & Anti-Racist) framework and prepares graduates to advance their social worker careers in three “pillar” areas: advanced clinical practice, leadership and teaching.

Qualifications
  • DSW or PhD in Social Work required.
  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program required.
  • An extensive practice history with demonstrated expertise in advanced clinical practice and/or leadership.
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in social work education required.
  • Experience with hybrid or online-based learning platforms strongly preferred.
  • Experience mentoring doctoral students strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the areas of leadership and/or ethics.


Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Carrying a 7-course teaching load per calendar year.
  • Participating in the ongoing creation of explicit and implicit curricula in consultation with faculty and program leadership.
  • Demonstrating service to the school, college, or university through committee work.
  • Providing support and mentorship to doctoral students during their capstone project.
