LAKELAND UNIVERSITY, an independent liberal arts institution located in east central Wisconsin, invites applications from a diverse group of qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Communication to begin August 2021. Lakeland seeks a candidate committed to serving a diverse student community who could teach a range of communication courses in areas such as speech, interpersonal communication, communication theory and new media. Moreover, the communication program is interested in expanding into areas of journalism, media production and public relations. Lakeland seeks candidates capable of developing and teaching courses in these areas. Of particular interest are applicants with backgrounds in social justice.

 Essential Duties

  • Teach undergraduate courses primarily in Communication, as well as in Lakeland’s Interdisciplinary Studies program and contribute to the university’s new social justice curriculum.
  • Direct and mentor students in the management of the student newspaper, The Mirror.
  • Create and engage students in coursework (assignments, projects, in-class learning activities, critiques, exams) that meets and assesses course learning objectives.
  • Revise and advance the Communication curriculum and assessment plan as needed.
  • Advise students regarding their academic and experiential learning endeavors.
  • Participate in student recruitment efforts.
  • Serve the institution through committee work.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to one’s field as well as student success strategies
  • Use university technology as directed, including academic platforms such as Blackboard and Starfish to support student learning.

 Qualifications 

  • A Ph.D. in communication or related field is required for the rank of assistant professor; applicants who are ABD may be considered at the rank of instructor
  • Undergraduate teaching experience will be highly valued, in addition to demonstrated competence in diversified online or hybrid learning environments
  • Commitment to experiential learning both in and out of the classroom.

Compensation will be commensurate with background and experience and a comprehensive benefit program is offered.
