Position Summary:
Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is seeking an exceptional faculty member committed to the college’s philosophy that education serves the greater good by providing students access to a better life. A strong histology/histotechnician (HTC) candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to teach introductory and upper college-level histology/histotechnician and medical laboratory technician students who are part of a diverse student population. Experience in histotechnology laboratory guidelines for quality assurance, regulations, proficiency testing, is required. Additionally, basic spectrophotometric skills, and the ability to troubleshoot histotechnology laboratory instruments as well as excellence in oral, written and interpersonal communication skills is expected. The position may include extensive collaboration with local affiliated laboratories and draw stations to find placements for the HTC, MLT, MLA and phlebotomy students as well as coordinating the laboratory practicum experience for the students. The position will require in state travel to affiliate laboratory sites. Candidates should be committed to student-centered, outcomes-based education with experience incorporating multiple instructional strategies and the use of technology in teaching and learning. Teaching assignments are 15 faculty load hours per semester. Courses to be instructed include lecture (including online), lab, and activity classes in the Histotechnician and Medical Laboratory Technician programs. Full-time faculty are expected to participate on committees in the department, school of health sciences, and the college. Candidates should be committed to student-centered, outcomes-based education with experience incorporating multiple instructional strategies that engages the student, including the use of technology. Strong candidates will demonstrate knowledge of evidence based teaching practices, commitment to inclusive teaching practices, and application of these practices in a college classroom to help students succeed. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date.

Duties 

• Primary responsibilities: 
• 30 faculty load hours each academic year 
• 6 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters 
• Teaching and assessing student learning 
• Student advising 
• Attain and maintain program accreditation 
• Recruiting and managing clinical/practicum affiliations 
• Professional Development 

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas: 

1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time faculty; part-time faculty 
2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities 
3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.) 
4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs 
5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community 
6. Recruiting and marketing 
7. Advising with expanded responsibilities 
8. Devising retention strategies and activities 
9. Strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues 

Required Qualifications: 

Candidates must be a medical laboratory professional who: 

• holds a baccalaureate degree or higher 
• holds ASCP BOC or ASCPi -BOC certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician 
• has three years of experience in medical or laboratory education that includes 
• teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences; 
• evaluating student achievement; 
• providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation; 
• evaluating program effectiveness; 
• knowledge of NAACLS accreditation; 
• knowledge of certification procedures; 
• minimum of three years teaching in higher education 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree preferred 
• Two or more years of teaching at the community college level 
• Experience or knowledge of histotechnology/ histotechnician education 
• Experience or knowledge of NAACLS accreditation process for new or ongoing programs 
• Experience or knowledge of ASCP certification examination process for HTC, MLT, MLA, and Phlebotomy programs 
• Experience or knowledge of AMT certification examination process for HTC, MLT, MLA, and Phlebotomy programs 
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in Spanish or another language
