Position Summary: 
Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is seeking an exceptional faculty member committed to the college’s philosophy that education serves the greater good by providing students access to a better life. A strong obstetric and/or medical surgical nurse candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to teach introductory and upper college-level nursing students who are part of a diverse student population. Bi-lingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in nursing guidelines for quality assurance, regulations, proficiency testing, is required. Additionally, nursing skills, and the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment as well as excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are expected and bi-lingual candidates are preferred. The position will require in state travel to affiliate clinical sites. Candidates should be committed to student-centered, outcomes-based education with experience incorporating multiple instructional strategies and the use of technology in teaching and learning. Teaching assignments are 15 faculty load hours per semester. Courses to be instructed include lecture (including online), lab, and activity classes in the Nursing program. Full-time faculty are expected to participate on committees in the department, school of health sciences, and the college. Additionally, candidates should be proven team-players with an ongoing commitment to personal and professional development as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date.

Duties 

  • Primary responsibilities: 
  • 30 faculty load hours Fall and Spring Terms 
  • 6 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters 
  • Teaching and assessing student learning 
  • Student advising 
  • Professional Development 

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time faculty; part-time faculty 
  2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities 
  3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.) 
  4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs 
  5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community 
  6. Recruiting and marketing 
  7. Advising with expanded responsibilities 
  8. Devising retention strategies and activities 
  9. Strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in Nursing 
  • Minimum of two years of current obstetric and/or medical surgical nursing experience 
  • One year experience with teaching and curriculum 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills 
  • Current Registered Nurse license 
  • CPR certified 
  • Individual teaching schedules are developed each semester based on the needs of students, and department with the opportunity to teach daytime, evening, and weekend classes and at offsite locations. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Teaching at the community college level 
  • Teaching obstetrics and/or medical surgical labs using simulation 
  • Ability to write and communicate orally in Spanish or another language
