Salary and Terms:  Full-time, nine month* probationary tenure-track position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Position Description: The faculty member will, through collaboration with partnering high schools, get students thinking about a career in Education while still in high school. The faculty will mentor teachers/team teach Education 101 courses in approximately 18-24 Minnesota High Schools through SMSU’s concurrent enrollment program, College Now. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with high school teachers to provide mentorships and cooperative, team teaching
  • Development of syllabi and expectations for the mentorships and teaching process
  • Assisting teachers in development of course schedule, layout, and expectations, grading rubrics, etc. through daily/weekly communication
  • Traveling regularly to all partnering high schools for teaching, observing, and student engagement
  • Providing ongoing professional development to high school teachers
  • Developing partnerships with high school administrations
  • Participation in SMSU department and institutional activities
  • Evaluation of teacher and student performance
  • Participation in concurrent enrollment activities, through involvement with the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships and Minnesota Concurrent Enrollment Partnership
  • Execution and oversite of Education student campus exploration days
  • Assessment and follow up on grant requirements
  • Additional responsibilities may include field experience supervision and/or teaching of campus courses

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Education required.
  • Previous or current licensure.
  • Three years teaching experiences in a P-12 school is required
  • Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Student-centered approach to education and knowledge of concurrent enrollment
  • Valid Driver’s License—ability and willingness to travel regionally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Preference given for additional licensures.
  • Demonstrated skills in collaboration, consensus building, mentoring, and/or team teaching.
  • Candidate must have an understanding of and appreciation for liberal education.

*Nine Month Appointments- Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months.  The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years.  Initial faculty appointments at SMSU are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
