The Calvin University School of Business (CUSB)
invites applications for the newly created position of Dean of the
School of Business. We seek an established leader who will champion
the growth of the School of Business as it seeks new opportunities
and develops new business programs for a wide variety of learners.
The Dean will provide leadership and promote the flourishing of the
faculty, staff, students, and programs of the School of Business,
promote strong partnerships with the business community and alumni,
and work collaboratively with other university leaders to support
the flourishing of the university.
The School of Business
Recently launched with a $22.25 million dollar gift ,
the Calvin University School of Business is “...committed to the
excellent, engaged, and faithful preparation of students to lead
the transformation of business and organizations for the renewal of
society according to God’s purposes (mission).” The
CUSB’s 2030 vision includes being an excellent
accredited business school with expanded global influence, engaging
the world of business as a trusted partner for learning that
promotes flourishing, and being faithful to a Reformed Christian
faith that seeks understanding and promotes the welfare of the city
and the healing of the world. Please see the

Groundbreaking for a new home for the School of
Business will take place in spring of 2021 with expected completion
in time for fall classes in 2022. The CUSB’s resources currently
include 14 full time and 10 part time faculty members with advanced
degrees and professional experience. The school currently serves
approximately 600 undergraduate students majoring in the business
program and 25 graduate accounting students. The school offers
undergraduate majors in accounting, finance, financial planning,
human resource management, and marketing. Minors are offered in
accounting, business, entrepreneurship, and supply chain
management. Joint programs are offered in actuarial science, sport
management and graphic design. Graduate programs include an
existing Master of Accounting (MAcc) Program and an online Master
of Business Administration (MBA) Program with an anticipated launch
in fall of 2021.
The Opportunity
The Dean of the School of Business will be an
experienced leader with demonstrated abilities in providing servant
leadership, facilitating innovation, and implementing vision in a
collaborative work environment. The Dean will champion the growth
of the School of Business and engage stakeholders to promote the
School of Business, sustain programmatic relevance, and secure
essential support. The Dean will serve as the school’s primary
advocate in the university’s institutional planning and governance
framework. This is a full-time appointment with a goal
to begin July 1, 2021. To be considered, candidates
will:
- Be experienced in administration including recruitment, supervision, and development of personnel; budget preparation and management; strategic planning; and the successful development and launch of new programs.
- Be experienced in creating and leading collaborative teams, especially utilizing approaches that bring together people from various disciplines, departments, and divisions to accomplish common goals.
- Be experienced as a spokesperson promoting programs and business partnerships internally and externally.
- Have a lived appreciation for Reformed Christian thought and expression and the ability to embrace a university community that highly values dedication to its mission, including support for, and agreement with, Calvin University Faculty expectations.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of i) the academic enterprise and culture; ii) support for the faculty roles of teaching, scholarship, and service within Christian higher education; and iii) respect for the shared governance process.
- Demonstrate a track record of prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in ways beyond compositional diversity alone.
- Have earned a doctorate degree, preferably in an area of business.
- Have had experience as a business faculty member with a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service.
