Samford University’s School of Public Health invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work. This full-time, tenure track position is a 12-month appointment in the graduate program with a Summer 2021 start date. This position will have faculty and leadership responsibilities including teaching online and face-to-face, student mentorship, service, course development and scholarship. The department has an advanced clinical concentration which focuses on micro-level practice, counseling and psychotherapy with individuals and families. The Council on Social Work Education accredited the Master of Social Work program in 2017 as a face to face program and approved the addition of a fully online MSW program in 2019.

Qualified candidates will hold a doctoral degree in social work from an institutionally accredited university and a minimum of three years post-masters experience in a clinical setting or private practice. Current Alabama State License (LICSW, PIP preferred) or license eligible. Ideal candidates will be able to teach courses across the curriculum both face to face or online, design and develop innovative online instruction, provide mentorship for students, participate in interprofessional simulation and engage in service at the university, local and state level. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is expected.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, School of Health Professions, and School of Public Health. The college offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with an interprofessional education focus that reflects today’s team approach to professional practice.

The letter of application should include evidence of teaching effectiveness, research interests and activities, and any relevant practice experience.  Academic rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate must pass a background check.   Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, as Samford will not sponsor any employment visas for this position.  Samford University and the School of Public Health embrace diversity in their faculty, students, and staff and encourage applications from those who would add to the diversity of our academic community.
