The Spanish Language COVID-19 Navigator will work in multidisciplinary team within the Center for Health and Opportunities for Latinos (Centro SOL) to address vaccination perceptions in the Latino community. The Navigator will facilitate communication with Spanish speaking patients, and other study participants and support enrollment and retention of participants in the project. Role will also involve support of research teams with engagement of outpatient and in-patient research recruitment.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting participants for enrollment into the project.
  • Conduct community outreach and engagement and engage with partner organizations and organizations that regularly interact with people who use drugs about the project.
  • Identify field sites for conducting interviews and observations, and explore sites and settings for potential future programs and services.
  • Completion of observation notes and memos using a structured form.
  • Document all work activities in accordance with project guidelines.
  • Support research interviewer tasks as needed.
  • Ability to make multiple phone calls to ensure Spanish language participants can be part of the project.
  • Will collaborate with team leadership, faculty and study teams from varying schools within Johns Hopkins University, to support individuals with Limited English proficiency (LEP) enrollment and retention of participants.
  • Will help develop Spanish language recruitment materials.
  • Provide support for activities to educate and raise awareness of research and importance of diverse population engagement.
  • Will help create social media engagement to promote.
  • Will support research enrollment of Spanish speaking participants into various clinical trials inpatient and outpatient.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Two (2) years of related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years related experience.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with immigrant communities, group facilitation, and/or community stakeholders including front line workers, service providers, program planners, and decision makers desired.

  • Abilityto interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational background.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Work requires excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to get things done as scheduling can be challenging.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must be compassionate and sensitive to diverse situations, results-oriented, a self-starter and capable of making appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Must be able to enter data on a computer.
  • Work requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with a diverse patient population.
  • Ability to be flexible with fast paced work in inpatient Attending Physicians, clinical research teams, and patients.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
