Visiting Professor of Law



Washburn University School of Law invites applications from experienced faculty for a full-time visiting faculty position beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year. While this is a visiting position, it may convert into a full-time appointment after the 2021-2022 academic year depending on curricular needs, experience of and performance of the successful candidate during the visiting year. The successful candidate who has received tenure at another ABA-accredited law school will be eligible for an appointment with tenure if the position converts to a full-time position.

We seek candidates whose performance to date has demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, scholarship, and service. Concerning teaching, we are particularly interested in first-year legal writing, evidence, and professional responsibility. The Washburn campus is in the heart of Topeka, Kansas, blocks from the state capitol. Topeka has been named a Top Ten City in Kiplinger's magazine. Topeka features affordable housing with beautiful, historic neighborhoods filled with well-maintained parks and is the home of the Brown v. Board of Education historical site.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • A record of scholarly production


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with published legal scholarship and a record of strong teaching.
