Reporting to the Assistant Administrator, Clinical and the Clinical Director of Outpatient Cardiology and in collaboration with medical directors at each practice site and section, theNurse Practitioner Manager provides operational, strategic, and administrative oversight for the division’s Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses that support the JHU SOM Cardiology outpatient practices. The manager advances the role of Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses as key members of the outpatient cardiology care team while ensuring compliance with all administrative and regulatory requirements. The manager leverages their expertise to partner with appropriate stakeholders to optimize outpatient care delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative:

The individual in this role will provide oversight for Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses employed at a JHU SOM Cardiology outpatient clinic. This individual will consult regularly with the Assistant Administrator, Cardiology, and Clinical Director, Outpatient Cardiology to perform the following:

  • Personnel Management
  • Timely completion of annual performance reviews,
  • Adherence to organizational policies and procedures
  • Disciplinary action
  • Credentialing and certification maintenance
  • Attendance and time-keeping
  • Completion of required trainings
  • Develop and formalize a structure in which all advanced practice providers in the division have the opportunity to collaborate and participate in professionally enriching activities.
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Ensures appropriate use of resources through efficient scheduling practices
  • Reviews profit & loss statements to identify opportunities for financial improvement
  • Collaborates with hospital and division leadership to suggest and assist in implementing optimizations to workflow
  • Quality
  • Collaborates with section faculty to validate clinical competencies and adherence to best practices
  • Ensures appropriate onboarding process is in place for new advanced practice providers
  • Investigates and addresses safety events, and patient or co-worker complaints
  • Ensures compliance with all local and national regulatory guidelines
  • Monitors billing activity (where appropriate) and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Collaboration
  • Meets regularly with the Assistant Administrator for Clinical Operations and the Outpatient Clinical Director for Cardiology
  • Meets regularly with medical directors at each site to discuss strategies for maximizing utilization of NPs in the outpatient setting
  • Engages with appropriate section and medical site faculty to ensure alignment between advanced practice providers and programmatic goals
  • Clinical:

    The individual in this role will be expected to work in an independent clinical capacity for the equivalent of 16 hours per week.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Require minimum of 3 years experience in related clinical area, and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. Prefer at least 5 years related experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

    Preferred Qualifications: Dual or additional Master’s degree in healthcare administration preferred. One (1) year of supervisor experience strongly preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
