Job Description

The Virginia Tech School of Education invites applications for a Collegiate Assistant Professor in Career and Technical Education (CTE) to contribute to our vision of preparing professional educators and leaders in the various CTE program areas. The position, which begins in August 2019, is a non-tenure track, academic year appointment that is for three years and renewable without limit, with potential opportunities for summer session employment.

The CTE Collegiate Assistant Professor focuses on high-quality face-to-face and online teaching, curriculum updates and development, and translating CTE research into CTE instruction. In addition, the successful candidate will conduct disciplinary or pedagogical research, publishing in and presenting at appropriate venues, but there is no expectation of an extensive research program as is typical of a tenure-track faculty appointment. Finally, the successful candidate will engage in both institutional service (e.g., advising graduate students, serving on graduate committees as both members and chairs, serving on departmental, college, and/or university committees) and professional service (e.g., reviewing conference proposals, serving on boards).

The position may include occasional travel to attend professional meetings or conferences. Finally, we are seeking a candidate who identifies with the Virginia Tech Principles of Community (https://inclusive.vt.edu/vtpoc0.html). Candidates from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.

Employment is contingent upon submission of official university transcripts and a criminal background check.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications include (a) a doctorate in Career and Technical Education or other related doctoral degrees with a specialization/concentration in CTE at the time of appointment (August 2019), (b) at least three years of higher education teaching experience, and (c) a record of higher education teaching quality.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired qualifications include (a) a record of supervising students in a teacher licensure program, (b) domestic and international teaching experience in one or more of the seven CTE program areas or teaching in a related area in a CTE institution (middle school, high school, and/or post-secondary CTE program or institution preferred), (c) international project work in CTE in a developing country/countries, (d) international experience in CTE program administration, (e) commitment to seeking and/or securing external funding to support research, outreach, and programming, (f) working collaboratively with diverse populations, and (g) planning/providing/supervising internships in education.
