Summary:
The Chief Diversity Officer ( CDO ) is responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with applicable federal and state laws related to unlawful discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation. The CDO will investigate reports and/or complaints regarding harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and/or retaliation. Sexual misconduct investigations will also include sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, sexual exploitation, or relationship violence involving students, faculty, staff or third parties.
Provides vision, leadership, and counsel on matters of diversity initiatives; strategic planning; training, education, and research; community relations; policy development; campus climate issues; communications; and implementation of high-impact efforts that safeguard diversity, equity, inclusion, and mutual respect for all students, faculty, and staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
• Demonstrated extensive knowledge, through experience in the field of equity, diversity, and inclusion, affirmative action, of laws and regulations related to diversity, equal opportunity, Title IX and related matters, preferably in a higher education environment.
• Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion and an excellent command of modern diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and issues in higher education.
• Demonstrated experience in investigating Title IX complaints, incidents, and/or grievance investigation and resolution.
• Demonstrated success as a collaborator, influencer and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve results.
• Proven leadership in change management, strategic planning, fiscal, development and program sustainability.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include written, oral, listening, and presentation, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, in English and Spanish preferred; the ability to represent the university to the public in diverse professional settings.

Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education leadership or a related academic field.
• Five or more years of progressive experience in an educational organization, including a minimum of three or more years in designing, implementing, and sustaining diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is required.
• Proven experience successfully influencing senior leaders on matters of strategic significance is required.
• Experience successfully managing projects, developing/implementing/measuring strategies related to diversity and inclusion required.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree preferred.
