Mathematics-Lecturer Date: 09/29/2020 Colby is seeking to hire a Lecturer in Mathematics with special focus on Calculus, beginning in Fall 2021. Applicants with significant experience can be considered for a Senior Lecturer appointment. This is a non-tenure track continuing position emphasizing teaching and service, with special focus on the Calculus program. The teaching load is 5 courses per year, all Calculus or other introductory math courses. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics and must have at least three years of full-time mathematics teaching experience distinct from the Ph.D. program. Applications must include evidence of a thorough understanding of the job description as described on the department webpage; exceptional teaching and mentoring of undergraduates with diverse backgrounds, especially those from demographic groups under-represented in higher-education; exceptional organizational and collaboration skills; and an enthusiasm for service work.

Please arrange for at least four letters of recommendation to be submitted directly by the recommenders, at least two them should focus on your teaching and mentoring experience and two of them should focus on organizational skills and service work. The cover letter should address your commitment to the liberal arts and to promoting diversity in the discipline of mathematics. The teaching statement should briefly address both your overall philosophy concerning teaching introductory calculus and a detailed description of how you teach your classes and would adapt your teaching to Colby. The service statement should describe your service, outreach, and organizational experience, focusing on your leadership roles and coordination with others.
