The Education Program at Colby College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position, beginning September 1, 2021.

We seek a teacher-scholar (preferably with Ph.D./Ed.D. in hand) specializing in human development to teach the following courses: 1) an intermediate course on the relationship between education and social justice (two sections); 2) an intermediate course that considers children and youth from a critical developmental perspective; 3) an advanced specialty course on education and the intersections among gender, sexuality, and other dimensions of difference; and 4) a course focused on human development.

We seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the department through their teaching, scholarship, and mentorship. We are looking for candidates who can work with us to engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups.

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. The successful candidate will be familiar with the liberal arts context, possess college-level teaching experience, and have an active research program that can interest and engage undergraduate students. The Education Program consists of four faculty members committed to critical youth development and promoting social justice in schools and society at large. We offer a major in Educational Studies and minors in Education and Human Development, and we offer Maine State Teacher Certification at the secondary level.
