The Multilingual Writing Specialist (MLWS) is an integral member of the Colby Writing Program and works collaboratively with its Director and the Director of the Farnham Writers’ Center on matters related to writing and communication, with primary responsibility for enhancing existing multilingual writing support for students. The successful candidate will work one-on-one with multilingual writers; teach three writing-intensive courses, one each term; help build faculty capacity around multilingual writing pedagogy; and collaborate with Writing Program faculty to plan and facilitate workshops. As a non-tenure-track, continuing member of the Colby faculty, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop new courses and continue to advance a research agenda in their area(s) of expertise.

Candidates with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a relevant field (e.g., English, Composition/ Rhetoric, Writing Studies, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies) are invited to apply. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their background, scholarship, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community.

We seek a candidate with:
-substantial experience working with multilingual writers, both one-on-one and in the classroom
-teaching experience in first-year composition (mainstream, separate multilingual/international, or cross-cultural sections)
-knowledge of scholarship and pedagogy in second-language writing, linguistics (e.g., applied linguistics, sociolinguistics), writing studies, and/or composition/rhetoric
-an ongoing research agenda in field(s) of interest related to the position
-an ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines
-an ability to contribute as a member of a diverse community
