Assistant Professor of History (Sub-Saharan African History) 

The Department of History and Geography at Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Sub-Saharan African history, beginning February 1, 2021.  The primary research focus should be the colonial or post-colonial era, with regional and thematic specialization open.  A completed Ph.D. in History is required by February 1, 2021.  Teaching responsibilities will include: introductory and upper-division courses in the area of specialization, World in the Twentieth Century, study abroad classes on the continent, and classes in the Elon Core Curriculum.  Interest in and ability to teach modern Middle East and North Africa and the ability to mentor undergraduate research are highly desirable. Strong candidates will show potential for excellence in innovative teaching and curricular development, as well as interest in teaching in Elon’s interdisciplinary core curriculum, and a passion for mentoring students in high impact experiences such as research, internship, study abroad and community outreach or service.
