THE SEARCH
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) welcomes nominations and applications for its next Senior Vice President for External Affairs.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President/Chief Finance and Business Strategy Officer, the successful candidate will bring considerable federal, state and city legislative experience to help establish and oversee a patient-centric legislative agenda which advocates for the support of DFCI’s mission and programs. The next Senior Vice President for External Affairs (SVP) must be deeply attuned to the changing financial reimbursement landscape for Medicare and Medicaid payers at state and federal levels and support community outreach programs to enhance cancer control for underserved populations. The SVP for External Affairs will also lead efforts to support sustainable increases in NIH and NCI funding, promote coverage and access to cancer care and clinical trials, and advocate to reduce barriers for cancer patients. In addition, the Senior Vice President provides strategic planning and project management support for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s (DFCI) priority initiatives, as requested, and serves in a special advisory capacity to the DFCI President on major policy issues.
Founded in 1947 by Sidney Farber, MD, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute holds a special place in New England culture. With an annual operating budget of approximately $2.1 billion, today the Institute employs over 5,000 people supporting more than 350,000 patient visits a year. DFCI has more than 500 Harvard Medical School faculty members responsible for direct patient care and the oversight of more than 1,100 clinical trials.
