Visiting Assistant Professor of English (Modern/Contemporary Americanist) – Flagler College

Flagler College is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of English who specializes in Modern & Contemporary American Literature.  Secondary specializations are open, though the possible ability to teach Fiction in the Writing Track would be a particular strength.  More generally, someone with a strong generalist background and capable of teaching multiple areas at the undergraduate level would be especially welcome.

The appointment will be for one year (2021-2022), with the possibility of renewal thereafter based upon departmental needs.  The position may become a full-time line in the future, and the Visiting Assistant would be a candidate for that position if desired.

The annual teaching load is a 4/4.  The Fall schedule will include freshman composition and a variety of 300/400-level offerings; but in terms of specifics at the upper-division level the department will be flexible to accommodate the strengths/interests of the candidate.

This is a full-time, one-year position, slated to begin in August 2021.

Desired Qualifications

  • D. in English. ABD will also be considered.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience, including composition.

Candidates should submit an application letter, C. V., and statement of teaching philosophy for the initial review process.  All applications received by January 31, 2021, will receive consideration.  The process will remain open until a candidate is selected and later applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.  Letters of recommendation are welcome at the initial stage, but not required until applicants are selected for initial interviews.

All application materials should be submitted through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/82102.  Letters of recommendation are required upon submission of application.
