Job Summary/Basic Function:

Brazosport College, a two-time Top 10 finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and Achieving the Dream Leader College, seeks a dynamic and innovative individual to lead the next phase of its Health Professions Division. Reporting directly to the Dean of Instruction, the Executive Director of Health Professions is responsible for the effective administration of the Health Professions Division, representing the Division at the national, state, and local levels, providing leadership to the health professions. The Executive Director of Health Professions supports the College’s student success agenda through the development of exemplary data-driven processes and practices in order to provide exceptional undergraduate educational experiences, recruit, develop and retain outstanding faculty, and promote faculty-driven scholarly and creative endeavors that advance the size, scope, and impact of the health professions division in our local community and the State of Texas. As a member of a high functioning team, the Executive Director of Health Professions supports dynamic relationships between Brazosport College, its faculty and staff, and with external, industrial, and educational partners.  Duties and responsibilities including the following:

  • Maintain Texas State Board of Nursing and Commission on Collegiate Nursing standards;
  • Supervise Director of Vocational Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing, Simulation Lab Coordinator, and Coordinator of Emergency Medical Services
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Instruction and the Vice President, Academic & Student Affairs to ensure adequate faculty to meet the program's mission, goals, and expected student and faculty outcomes;
  • Work closely with Student Services and Marketing offices to ensure recruitment efforts are fruitful, bringing qualified and appropriate numbers of students to the Program;
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with external organizations and agencies pertinent to the program;
  • Develop and provide meaningful staff development opportunities for the nursing program to enhance the quality of instruction, recruitment, and retention;
  • Support College’s student success initiatives;
  • Carry out administrative functions including but not limited to curriculum development, outcomes assessment, budget management, course scheduling and participating in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff;
  • Maintain all program activities necessary for SACSCOC accreditation and future re-affirmation of accreditation;
  • Prepare and lead ACEN accreditation obtainment;
  • Begin development of the RN to BSN program in accordance with accreditation requirements;
  • Generate continuing scholarship through presentations, publications, grant writing, etc.;
  • Serve as a member of assigned college committees and advisory councils as appropriate; and
  • Work closely with the office of Planning, Institutional Assessment and Research to ensure continuous program assessment and revision that addresses on-going improvements to meet mission, goals, expected outcomes, and selected professional standards and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Minimum of an earned master’s in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university, Doctorate preferred; College has a tuition assistance program available to assist the director in obtaining a Doctorate in Nursing;
  • Five years minimum experience in academic nursing and higher education;
  • Eligibility for a registered nurse license with the Texas Board of Nursing;
  • Leadership skills related to ACEN accreditation processes, budgeting, departmental evaluation, and management of faculty and personnel;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, instructional methodologies, and clinical nursing practice;
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented work habits;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to present complex material orally and in writing and strong human relations skills;
  • Experience working effectively in teams across multiple areas of an organization;
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff;
  • Demonstrated ability working with culturally diverse populations; and
  • Other qualities, experiences, and skills that enhance one's value to the institution (exceptional employment or educational qualifications may be given special consideration).
