Description
Western Michigan University School of Social Work invites
applications for multiple positions of tenure track academic year
professor positions at the level of assistant or associate
professor. Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience, with an excellent benefits package. Expected Start Date
is 08/15/2021, and positions are open until filled.
Major Responsibilities:
- Sustained productivity in research and grant writing
- Teach in macro and/or clinical practice within the School of Social Work
- Advise with graduate and undergraduate students in the School of Social Work in the discipline of social work
- Service to the department, university, profession, and community
- Contribute to an environment of research, instruction, and
community collaborations
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D or doctorate in social work or a related field and Master of Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program, or ABD status with anticipated completion of doctorate by employment start,
- At least two years relevant social practice experience, according to CSWE accreditation
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social and economic
justice that is consistent with the mission of the School.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated potential or ability to maintain an active program of scholarly research and grant writing related to social work
- Experience in teaching, advising, and/or mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students with favorable student ratings where available
- Experience in being an active part of a diverse and inclusive group of faculty, staff, and student leaders, focused on advancing social, economic, and environmental justice through social work practice, teaching, and scholarship.
- Commitment to forging strong school, community and state partnerships
- Ability or willingness to teach hybrid and/or online courses
- Professional social work license or eligibility for license at
the master's level in Michigan

The College: The WMU College of Health and
Human Services is in a 195,000 square foot building with
state-of-the-art teaching technologies and spacious research
laboratories. In addition to the School of Social Work, the college
includes programs in blindness and low vision studies, nursing,
occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant,
speech, language and hearing sciences, holistic health care,
alcohol and drug abuse, interdisciplinary health services, public
health, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary health sciences.
WMU’s College of Health and Human Services has received several grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Department of Education. The college also operates the Unified Clinics, a multidisciplinary service/training clinic. Department/School: WMU’s School of Social Work,
located in the College of Health and Human Services, offers a BSW
and MSW program with two concentrations (Clinical Social Work and
Policy, Planning, and Administration) and two specializations
(Trauma and School Social Work). We have three teaching sites
in Southwest Michigan (Benton Harbor, Kalamazoo, and Grand

WMU’s School of Social Work has over 100 BSW students and over
300 MSW students in the program. With a strong teaching history,
WMU’s School of Social work is seeking to expand research and
scholarship leadership within the faculty. The School is home to
the Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare. Social Work
faculty members have received external funding in behavioral health
training, children’s trauma, and services for youth and young
adults with a history in foster care. The faculty members
collectively advance social, economic, and environmental justice
through social work education and partnership with community
stakeholders.
