The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks applicants for an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (AVC).

Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the AVC plays a crucial, campus-wide role by providing direction, support, organization and education to foster and promote a campus culture that minimizes bias and both recognizes and addresses systemic inequalities. The person in this role will collaborate and work closely with students, faculty, and staff to promote their ability to engage, teach, and work in a culturally diverse environment. The AVC will take leadership in establishing ongoing assessment and accountability of the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the campus. With the support of capable team, the AVC will engage in campus-wide strategy and implementation of plans to support and develop recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty, and staff.

The AVC will directly supervise staff in the Student Diversity Center, the Academic Transition Program, the Office of Diversity and Equity, and the Chancellor's Diversity Council.

Responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement campus-specific diversity programs in coordination with University-wide (tri-campus) diversity efforts (Diversity Blueprint) as part of UW Bothell’s strategic plan.
• Establish and articulate diversity-related institutional goals and objectives and assess their outcomes; develop and evaluate criteria used in the resource-allocation, budgeting, and planning processes.
• Provide collaborative leadership, guidance, and coordination in meeting UW Bothell’s responsibility to its external and internal audiences on matters related to campus diversity.
• Provide leadership and analyses on the fiscal, programmatic and administrative implications of proposed policies and their relationship to institutional objectives and relevant community interests, thereby ensuring that diversity-related issues are among key considerations in all major budgetary, administrative, and governance decisions.
• Facilitate the design and adoption of policies leading to an inclusive and supportive community of learning, incorporating multicultural content and diverse perspectives on ethnic and racial groups, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, social class, veteran status, special needs, etc.
• Provide leadership, strategic direction and operational management for a development program that includes grants, fundraising events, and corporate partners.
• Support programs that promote culturally sensitive leadership skills among the Campus’s management, supervisory, and administrative teams.
• Work collaboratively with Organizational Excellence and Human Resources and other campus entities to implement and evaluate effective polices and strategies for recruiting and retaining diverse staff and faculty.
• Collaborate proactively and strategically with other student-focused administrative units, such as Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and the student government.
• Serve as a resource for the development of courses and curricula on diversity and inclusion, identifying curricular needs and making recommendations for enhancing the educational experience of all students.
• Lead and provide direction to the Chancellor’s Diversity Council.
• Facilitate one course per year related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
• Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in -preferably but not exclusively- an area related to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, leadership and organizational effectiveness.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with generating a positive environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff. Five years of successful and progressive experience in leadership and supervisory role directly related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social.
• Highly skilled at presenting, writing about, and discussing difficult or controversial topics with diverse audiences in a way that promotes productive interactions and positive outcomes.
• Highest ethics, integrity and confidentiality consistent with the position.
• Understanding of equal opportunity, affirmative action, and knowledge of applicable federal and Washington state laws, policies, and procedures related to Title IV, Title IX, Americans with Disabilities Act, and similar others.
• Evidence of a track record for developing and implementing effective diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty/staff and students.
• Ability to work effectively and collegially within a tri-campus university with a strong tradition of shared governance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders (academic and administrative leadership) to build individual capacity and commitment towards organizational change.
• Strong conflict-resolution skills to navigate politically-charged situations to resolve problems, build consensus, and reconcile competing interests.
• Experience leading swift, effective responses to on-campus bias-motivated incidents.

Preferred:

• An advanced degree from an accredited institution.
• Credentials and scholarly record to teach one course a year per job description above.
• Academic expertise and familiarity with faculty development, engagement, recruitment and retention in a diverse campus.

Conditions of employment:

• Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Ability to commute to the three campuses as needed.
