Position Summary

The Huang/Slone laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a highly motivated research technician to study the molecular basis of genetic syndromes. The group studies a variety of genetic diseases, with the ultimate goals of developing treatments for said conditions while also translating the discoveries from rare diseases to more common conditions. They place a special emphasis on mitochondrial diseases (see Dr. Huang’s faculty page for more details), which play a critical and often underappreciated role in a wide variety of disorders. Methodologies used include next generation sequencing to identify disease-causing mutations, and iPSC and mouse models to characterize the impact of these mutations using CRISPR /Cas9-based methods.

Candidates for this position will be required to perform the following tasks to support and assist the research project in the lab:

  • The proper care and maintenance of equipment.
  • The preparation of reagents for the labs.
  • The care and maintenance of the mouse colony.
  • The genotyping of the mice using PCR, the careful maintenance of labs records.
  • Performing other basic molecular biology techniques such as western blot or gel electrophoresis.

    Minimum Qualifications

    At least a bachelor’s degree in field related to biological or biomedical sciences, as well as at least one year of experience working in a laboratory environment. Previous experience with laboratory animals, and particularly with mice, is preferred. Candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and must also be organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Candidate must be proficient in the basic use of computers and electronic recording keeping, including proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
