The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program in the Information and Logistics Technology (ILT) Department is seeking applicants for a full-time, nine-month academic year, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date for the position is September 1, 2021.

The College of Technology is the fourth largest college at the University of Houston, and one of the fastest growing. As a Carnegie-designated Tier One public research university, we are looking for highly dedicated scholars, researchers, and teachers to help us create and prepare the talent for the future's technologists, engineers, scientists, and business leaders for a lifetime career of innovation, economic development, and workforce creation.

The successful candidate at a junior level will have the background to successfully establish and/or sustain a funded research record that meets the requirements for tenure at the University of Houston. In addition, the successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and mentoring students, and be committed to student success. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate, and undergraduate student population. Academic responsibilities include: conducting funded research; teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses; assisting in the development of undergraduate and graduate programs; and providing program, departmental, college, and university service.

The CIS program is accredited by the Computing Accrediting Commission of ABET and focuses on computing technologies to solve business problems. The program, with 13 full-time faculty has doubled to over 1,150 majors in the past five years and is currently the largest undergraduate program in the College of Technology and is among the top three in enrollment at University of Houston . Graduates enjoy immediate recognition by industry in career paths that include software systems development and administration, database administration, project management, e-commerce, and network administration. Graduates of the CIS program can also elect to pursue the MS in Cybersecurity in the department or other relevant graduate degrees at the University of Houston. The faculty is working on developing an undergraduate track, certificate, and graduate degree in the Data Science area within the next 1-3 years. Qualifications :

Candidates must possess outstanding academic credentials that clearly demonstrate the ability to conduct independent and successful research, teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses, and work with faculty and staff to maintain ABET accreditation. Expected is an earned doctoral degree in an area of study related to applied information systems.

The successful candidate must have experience in one or more of these content areas:

  • Database and data analytics systems
  • Enterprise information system development and administration (focus on the development side)
  • Infrastructure (Dev Ops and Cloud Computing)
  • Cybersecurity
