Core Faculty Doctor of Education in Educational and Professional Practice

Antioch University’s Doctor of Education in Educational and Professional Practice (EdD) is a degree for practitioners committed to social action. Our program is designed to prepare professionals who use educational practice in the service of more just and inclusive schools, organizations, and communities. Students engage in a transdisciplinary curriculum that includes courses in research methods, social justice leadership, diversity, and program design. Students in this low-residency program are geographically-dispersed.  Classes are offered online, with a four-day, face-to-face residency each July at one of Antioch’s campuses. Virtual residencies are held the first day of each semester, and occasional Zoom sessions are offered within each course.

Position Summary: The position is for a full time faculty member who teaches, advises and mentors students, serves on dissertation committees, conducts scholarly work, and serves on campus, regional, and university committees. Faculty work from home offices anywhere in the U.S., with occasional travel required for residencies and meetings.

Area of expertise is open with a preference for academic expertise in at least two of the following areas: PK-12 or higher Education (Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership); Leadership in community or nonprofit organizations; Multicultural and Antiracist Education; Environmental and Sustainability Education; Critical Pedagogy;  Adult Education; or Social-Emotional Learning.  A commitment to quality education with a scholar-practitioner orientation is required.

Responsibilities:

• Engagement in Student Learning: Teaching load will be determined in consultation with the EdD Program Director and School of Education Dean, depending on program needs. Conducts workshops on additional topics as needed. Chairs or serves on 10-12 dissertation committees. Serves as academic advisor to students regarding academic progress and professional development. Evaluates student work in a narrative format. Facilitating learning within a geographically dispersed student body.
• Engagement in Scholarship and Creative Work: Conducts scholarly work in the form of academic research, publications, and/or presentations at professional organizations. Attends trainings, conferences, and workshops to enhance professional growth and expertise in their field(s).
• Engagement in Service: Participates in community service and local, statewide and/or national professional organizations that further the interests of the community, program, and university.
• Engagement in Institutional Citizenship: Serves on program and university wide committees. Serves on admissions committees, reviews applications, and participates in interviewing EdD applicants. Serves as mentor to adjunct colleagues. Facilitates the collection of data for program evaluation and participates in program development for accreditation purposes. Participates in the development and revision of the curriculum. Assists in assigned aspects of the doctoral program including the development of workshops or special events.
• Other duties as needed: Participates in curriculum development, grant-writing, and other departmental initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Education (PreK-12 or Higher Education focus), Leadership, or an Interdisciplinary degree incorporating those fields, from a regionally accredited institution.
• Substantial experience as a university faculty especially with graduate students.
• Experience in a multicultural environment with a demonstrated commitment to culturally diverse adult learners.
• Comfort with a range of academic technologies in teaching and learning.
• Experience teaching and mentoring students in applying qualitative or quantitative research methods.
• Experience serving on and/or chairing doctoral dissertations.
• Experience in curriculum development and program development and evaluation.
• Detail orientation and organizational ability.
• A strong commitment to the Antioch University mission and to adult learners and non-traditional students.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general psychology periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Hours of Employment: This is a full-time position. The work schedule will be established in consultation with the Program Director with some evenings and/or weekend hours required. The normal week is Monday through Friday. Faculty are exempt employees.

Compensation and Benefits: Salary is dependent upon placement on the faculty salary schedule. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, paid time off, life insurance, and pension plan. Eligible for tuition benefit after one year of employment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee or faculty is regularly required to talk, hear, walk and sit. They will be occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and required to have vision abilities. Additionally, they must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
