The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) invites nominations and applications for Chair, Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health (OSAH). The Chair is the administrative officer of one of UMSON's five academic departments, reports directly to the Dean, and leads departmental faculty members in UMSON's tripartite mission of education, research and scholarship, and service. OSAH consists of 66 full-time and 5 part-time faculty members, a Center of Excellence in Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan. UMSON is ranked among the top 10 schools of nursing by U.S. News & World Report and is in the top quartile in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.

Founded in 1889, UMSON enrolls more than 1,700 students in its BSN, MS (including CNL), DNP, and PhD programs. OSAH offers several APRN specialties in addition to Nurse Anesthesia, Nursing Informatics, and Health Services Leadership and Management.

UMSON is part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), a dynamic public university comprised of seven professional schools: medicine, dentistry, law, nursing, pharmacy, and social work. Its interdisciplinary graduate school has more than 40 programs in the biosciences, law, and social work, with more than $400 million in external funding. Its location in downtown Baltimore—20 minutes from the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, 30 minutes from Annapolis, 45 minutes from NIH, and 50 minutes from the nation's capital—enables UMB faculty members to address health care, public policy, and social issues innovatively and collaboratively with government agencies, health care institutions, and corporations. The University of Maryland Medical System, the Veterans Administration Health Care System, and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System are all adjacent to the UMB campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Promotes achievement of academic, research, practice, and service strategic initiatives.

  • Maintains collaborative relationships with faculty members, administrators, and external institutions and community partners.

  • Facilitates open communication between and among faculty members, administrators, and other staff at the departmental, school and university level.

  • Recommends hiring, advancement, and retention of faculty members and staff.

  • Provides fiscal oversight of department's operational and discretionary funds.
