To provide instruction in developmental and transfer level Mathematics courses. Part-time instructors direct student discussion and evaluate student performance in the classroom as well as participating as a member of the mathematics department instructional team of full-time and part-time instructors.

• This is a part-time (< .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty compensation begins at Step 1 / $616 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Initial assignment will be at the Bend Campus. May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

Essential Functions
1. Provide instruction in developmental and transfer level Mathematics. Courses range from Pre-Algebra through Trigonometry. This includes lecturing and facilitating classroom activities as well as providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress, including holding one office hour per week for each course taught in the current term. Utilize resources, including technological resources such as Blackboard, to provide current course content and to record grades. Conduct classroom presentations and activities; incorporate new methodologies in teaching and technology into classes as necessary. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening in Bend, Redmond, Madras, Prineville, Online or Remote.
2. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, by required deadlines relevant to part-time instructor teaching assignments, as assigned.

2. Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1) A thorough knowledge of the content in the field of Mathematics.
2) Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate a wide range of strategies and instructional methodologies to serve a variety of audiences.
3) Ability to provide instruction using computers, graphing calculators, and other technological aids as appropriate for courses taught.
4) Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
5) Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
6) Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
7) Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
8) Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
9) Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs,
conferences, and/or professional literature.
10) Ability to work effectively with Mathematics faculty and other COCC staffs at all levels on all campuses.
11) Willingness to teach across all time blocks (including evenings) and in all areas of the district (Online, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras campuses as well as the Bend
campus).

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work is performed in a classroom and office environment using computers, white boards,
projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Must be able to kneel, stoop, crawl, and crouch. Physical movements involve guiding, feeding materials into proper position. Lifting objects
vary daily, up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Requires Master’s Degree in Mathematics or related field. Having only a Bachelor’s
Degree in Mathematics may be sufficient providing the candidate has graduate
credits in mathematics courses and/or substantial experience teaching mathematics
at the high school or college level.
2. Computer Literacy: Training in, or experience with, email, internet, word processing, and presentation applications.
