Provides direct assistance to students with registration processes including processing tuition and fee payments. Provides general clerical support to the Benton Center staff.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of two years’ full-time clerical or related experience.

Knowledge and Skills: Requires basic knowledge of general clerical and secretarial practices and principles. Requires operational knowledge of office equipment including personal computers. Must be able to communicate with a wide range of contacts in a courteous manner, exercising patience and maintaining professional customer relations, in person, over the phone or through email.

Abilities: Requires the ability to perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision. Requires the ability to learn, understand and apply the college rules, regulations and policies, as well as those specific to registration. Requires the ability to operate standard office machines and equipment including computers. Must have the ability to learn computerized registration and tuition assessment procedures. Must be able to prioritize and plan work in order to meet deadlines and a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent work interruptions or changes in workflow. Occasional lifting, guiding, or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment may be required. Position involves sitting for extended periods while working at a computer terminal. Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding functions.

Work is normally performed in an office setting with little or no exposure to health and safety hazards. Extensive time is spent working at a computer.

Essential Duties:

Registers students for classes using the college=s computerized system. Receives money, researches and resolves problems with registrations, and forwards student information to campus departments.

Answers multi-line telephone and takes messages, assists center visitors and answers routine questions. Refers significant problems to the appropriate staff member. Assists students prior to, during, and after class time. Provides information to students, staff and faculty in the use of correct forms and procedures.

Assists staff with center projects, including clerical tasks such as word processing, mail preparation, copying, classroom setups, and equipment handling.

Uses patience and understanding to resolve routine student and customer questions and problems.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
