Associate or Full Professor in College of Education:

Reading/Language Arts, Special Education, or Educational Psychology

Department:

College of Education and Florida Center for Reading Research

The College of Education (COE) and the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) at the Florida State University invite applications for a full or associate professor tenured-position.  The position is expected to start in Fall 2021; however, the start date is negotiable. The position will involve teaching, research, and service within the COE, and will include a joint appointment with FCRR. The successful candidate will have a tenure home in one of three programs within the COE: Reading/Language Arts, Special Education, or Educational Psychology. Applicants with expertise and interests in reading and reading-related areas of research are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in applicants with expertise and research interests in reading comprehension among late-elementary to secondary students.

The position carries a reduced teaching assignment with correspondingly high expectations for research productivity. The candidate will be expected to maintain a rigorous grant writing and research program, including competitive external- and federally-funded research grants.  The candidate will also teach undergraduate, masters and doctoral level classes within their program, and train doctoral students through active participation in their research program.  The candidate will also be expected to participate in university governance in the department, college, and FCRR, at a level that is commensurate with the rank of associate or full tenured professor.

The candidate will join a diverse, interdisciplinary group of colleagues and students at COE and FCRR.  Drawing from multiple disciplines, FCRR investigates all aspects of reading and reading-related skills across the lifespan. Through rigorous and robust research, innovation, and engagement, FCRR advances the science of reading to improve learning and achievement from birth through adulthood. Meanwhile, the COE advances society and enriches our community through the support and advocacy of education as a public good, while enhancing the quality of life of all our students, faculty and staff.  Through meaningful collaborations, commitment to public scholarship, and integration of research, practice and policy, the COE addresses America’s urgent education challenges in the innovative manner characteristic of FSU.

Responsibilities:

Candidates will be expected to maintain a rigorous grant writing and research program, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in their program, train doctoral students, and participate in university governance commensurate with the rank of associate or full, tenured professor.

  • Ph.D. in Reading Education, Special Education, Educational Psychology, or related field
