The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science & International Affairs (PSIA). The successful candidate may teach on multiple campuses with the focus being the Dahlonega campus to support the B.S. in Political Science and Masters of Public Administration.

  • Responsible for teaching 12 hours per semester (4/4; undergraduate and graduate; face to face and fully online) The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach courses in American politics broadly defined. Courses could focus on American institutions, electoral politics, or other areas of American politics. Desired strengths would be expertise within state/local politics as well as the role of political  bureaucracy. 
  • Successful candidates would also have the ability to teach the methods course within the MPA program. 
  • Successful candidates will also support the fully online MPA degree.
  • In addition to teaching at the graduate level candidates may also teach public administration classes at the undergraduate level.
  • Areas of focus in terms of public administration is open so long as it does not replicate existing strengths in non-profits and educational policy.
  • The department has a strong focus on advising and service.  Faculty are expected to conduct service at the departmental level as well as at the College and University levels.
  • Candidates also are expected to engage in research and scholarship as part of the tenure process.
  • The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in political science, public administration, or a related field.
  • They must have a successful teaching and publication record. Applicants must have a focus on American politics and Public Administration.

Preference will be given to those candidates who:
1) Have a strong background to teach American politics and Public Administration with the ability to teach research methods a requirement.
2) Have taught Intro to American government
3) Experience teaching in on-line instruction
4) Are committed to strongly supporting and growing the degree offerings of the department.                                                      
5) Have engaged in significant advising and service activities
