The University of Louisiana at Monroe (herein referred to as University) invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences (herein referred to as College).

The University of Louisiana at Monroe, a comprehensive, state institution of higher education, is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences. The University seeks an innovative, forward-thinking academic administrator and scholar to lead this College that serves approximately 2,200 students.

The Opportunity

The College of Business and Social Sciences is home to the William D. Hoover School of Accounting, Financial and Information Services; School of Behavioral and Social Sciences; School of Construction Management; and the David and Sharon Turrentine School of Management.  The College offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in both on-campus and online formats.  The College, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), is a leader in preparing business professionals for the future.  It serves as a regional resource for economic development, and benefits from strong support from the regional business community. The College holds accreditations from ABET for their Computer Science program, from ACCE for their Construction Management program, and from CSWE for their Social Work program.  Undergraduate and graduate programs in the social and behavioral sciences account for more than half of the College’s current student enrollment.

The Position: 

The Dean of the College is the chief academic officer and the administrative head of the College. The Dean holds academic rank and is charged with the administration, academic leadership, and supervision of the operation of the College through its instructional programs, research, publications, and service activities.  Direct reports to the Dean include the Associate Deans, School Directors, Directors, Business & Facilities Manager, and administrative support staff.

Duties and responsibilities include:  

Provides strategic leadership that develops an ever-improving College.

  • Oversees and assists with the implementation of a strategic plan that aligns with the University’s Vision and Goals.
  • Supports a culture of collegial governance.
  • Develops strong working relationships with the University President, Vice Presidents, Deans, other administrators, and the community.
  • Promotes a collaborative and innovative environment for faculty, staff and students.
  • Advocates for all schools, departments and programs within the College.
  • Oversees, facilitates, and supports all programs to meet or exceed accreditation standards.
  • Provides operational leadership for an effective, efficient, and dynamic College.
  • Provides a supportive environment for student interaction, committees, and organizations.

 

Is responsible for the academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership of the College.

  • Oversees the advancement of College growth by recruiting, retaining, and leading high-quality faculty and staff.
  • Facilitates recruitment, matriculation, retention and graduation of students.
  • Facilitates grantsmanship and promotes an impactful research environment.
  • Aggressively pursues strong relationships with industries and promotes entrepreneurship.
  • Facilitates resolution of complaints and grievances of students, staff, and faculty
  • Determines the charge of and appoints members to College committees in association with the leadership of the College.
  • Chairs the College Administrative Council.
  • Evaluates all direct reports.
  • Oversees the promotion and tenure process of the College.
  • Oversees utilization of space and resources in the College.
  • Creates an environment that supports professional excellence
  • Seeks out and raises external funding for student, faculty, and research support.

 

Provides external representation to promote the College and University.

  • Attends University, community, and professional events.
  • Represents the College to external stakeholders.
  • Serves on professional and University committees as assigned.
  • Cultivates opportunities for and supports the efforts of the University’s Foundation.

 

Qualifications:  

The successful candidate must have/possess:

  • An earned terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., D.B.A.) from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A background in administration, and successfully provided visionary academic, administrative, fiscal, budgetary, and personal leadership.
  • Experience with academic program development, assessment, and accreditation processes. AACSB accreditation experience is required.
  • A demonstrated record of successful administrative accomplishment, including program development, program accreditation and student/faculty recruitment and retention.
  • A strong record of teaching, service, and scholarly achievement, including competitive extramural funding, consistent with the rank of full professor.
  • Demonstrated success with and the ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents including large corporations, family businesses, and other community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity.
  • A strong commitment to and proven leadership in participatory governance within the University.
  • The ability to work outside normal University business hours as needed and travel occasionally.

 

University of Louisiana at Monroe

The University of Louisiana at Monroe has an enrollment of nearly 9,200 students. Defined by faculty excellence in teaching and research, the University has a 238-acre campus located in a culturally rich metro area with a diverse population of more than 150,000.
