The University of Washington Bothell has an outstanding opportunity for a Data Analyst.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of the Institutional Budget and Planning (IPB) office, this position will assist the department with managing the campus-wide processes and operations of the $120+ million University of Washington Bothell budget. The IPB office currently consists of the Director and 3 analysts, supporting a wide range of analytical and financial operations and acts as the central financial and budget planning office of the campus. The Data Analyst will play a key role in IPB, primarily providing support of data collection/sourcing and the development of dashboard, reporting & visualization requirements of the office. In addition, the IPB office values a highly collaborative and participatory office culture, encouraging all members to be free-thinking and share in the creative, analytical, and problem-solving process of strategic budget and finance work.

Responsibilities:
DATA MANAGEMENT:
• Coordinate with Institutional Research, IT and Central Seattle offices on data collection, data management processes.
• Advise on appropriate data collection tools; design and program data collection databases as needed.
• Provide timely and accurate responses to data queries from IPB analysts.
• Provide documented datasets for analysis.
• Maintain a proactive and forward-thinking approach to data management and report generation.
• Work closely with stakeholders and operations team to understand project goals and execute reporting and queries to meet project timelines.
DASHBOARD DEVELOPMENT AND MODELING:
• Work with Senior Analysts to develop dashboard and modeling solutions for recurring/common reporting and analytical needs across campus.
• Proactive identification of dashboard and visualization needs, primarily financial in nature.
• Enhance and/or refine existing reporting solutions, both with visualization and sustainable approaches.
• Prepare tabular, graphical and statistical summary reports in support of IPB.
STORYTELLING & COMMUNICATION:
• Maintain strong working relationships with key staff and management across campus, specifically in areas such as Institutional Research and IT.
• Translate IPB needs into products, in a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Ability to be steeped in detail and complexity of a development task, and clearly communicate the bigger picture associated.
• Ability to adjust the analytical narrative based on audience (such as: various leadership level, data experts, financial experts, curricular experts, and those in between)
PROCESS & SYSTEM MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT:
• Maintain knowledge of all associated internal database logic and prepare background information regarding requirements, changes, or innovations.
• Establish clear documentation and methodology for dashboards and reports within IPB.
OTHER DUTIES:
• May represent the Institutional Planning & Budget on UW Bothell committees (such as: Student Activities Fees Committee) and participate in various campus budget related meetings as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in data management.
• High proficiency in Tableau or other visualization tools and Data management tools.
• Demonstrated SQL skills, custom queries, other data extraction tools/systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience in recording and documenting complex processes.
• Expertise with Microsoft 365 suite.
• High level of initiative and ability to self-direct when needed.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technology skills and systems.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and theoretical concepts.
• Ability to create and deliver PowerPoint and other graphic presentations.
• Knowledge of common accounting terminology and processes.
• Proactive, creative, and efficient problem solver in ambiguous and fluid situations.
• Results-driven with high level of initiative, analytic capability and accountability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including presentations.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to work with a diverse constituency.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

Desired:
• 3+ years of progressively responsible work experience in budgeting/finance visualization development or data systems.

Conditions of employment:
• Work is performed in an office setting or remotely during regular business hours.
• Occasional evening work.
