Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the college’s web strategy, design, architecture, user interface, development, maintenance and optimization of the website for freshness of content, excellent User Experience (UX), top Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and maximized speed and responsiveness as a strategic communications and marketing asset.

This position participates in all aspects of web strategy including presenting recommendations for new web trends in higher education, advising on best practices for a seamless design and user experience, creating content to align with marketing strategies and providing strategy and tactics for measuring web page performance through user experience and analytics.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check.

Job Duties:


This list includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Works with the college’s communications and marketing and information technology teams to ensure the optimal user interface and user experience design of the site by strategically planning website content and navigation.
  • Maintains, revises and continually looks to improve all aspects of the website (i.e. content, architecture, images, graphics, keyword performance, lead generation, etc.).
  • Uses college’s Content Management System (CMS) to develop templates and content, implements new page designs and widgets that are responsive and cross-browser and device compatible.
  • Designs and implements website layout, user interfaces and web template designs by using best HTML/CSS practices, accessibility standards, security practices, and SEO.
  • Assists in the development of the college’s SEO marketing strategy maximizing opportunities for indexing, ranking, click-throughs and conversions.
  • Maintains involvement in the creation and management of assets for digital marketing campaigns, including landing pages and tracking codes, and leverages usability testing to improve user experience and landing page conversion.
  • Works with departments across campus to ensure content is up-to-date, accurate, and relevant.
  • Collaborates with college personnel across campus to ensure webpages are in alignment with NIC’s style and brand guidelines, have consistency of tone and style, and adhere to all college requirements and standards.
  • Regularly audits the website to ensure functionality, link accuracy, and quick loading time.
  • Codes and deploys email communications to internal and external stakeholders. Serves as design consultant for college HTML e-mails.
  • Supports Digital and Community Engagement Manager, Web Application Developer and Graphic Designer as needed.
  • Optimizes web pages for analytics, SEO, tracking and other performance metrics. Provides reports on performance metrics and provides recommendations.
  • Engages in appropriate professional development activities to stay current in web technologies, graphic design trends and marketing principles.
  • Provides training for other web users and content managers as needed.
  • Assumes on-call responsibility outside of regular college hours, for any urgent web updates or emergency support related to the position’s area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience : Bachelor's degree in related field and four years full-time related work experience required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Related work experience in the following:
• Experience with HTML/HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques.
• Familiarity with web standards of design, accessibility, and security.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing digital content for web.
• Experience with UX/UI concepts and best practices.
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, in particular Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign.
• Experience with Content Management Systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent web design skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including writing content for web.
• Proficient skills in web design and graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
• Ability to create and transition websites through the different phases of development: information gathering, planning, designing, development, testing and delivery, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of modern web technologies, website architectures, web browsers, responsive web design, web standards, cross-browser compatibility, and Web User Interface Design (UI).
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), SEO, page optimization and general best practices.
• Ability to critically evaluate website functionality/design and provide useful, actionable feedback.
• Ability to work effectively alone or with a variety of other positions, including other developers, content managers, and graphic designers.
• Organized, accurate, self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work with minimum supervision in a timely manner.
• Ability to manage deadlines, and prioritize projects.
